In the Summer of 2014 Nemesis got the chance to play probably their most important concert ever. The band was selected to represent the finnish ambient scene in the international Ambient Music Conference 2014, at Haltia Nature Center, near Helsinki.
Because it was such a high profile gig, Ami asked the legendary synthesist and Minimoog specialist Esa Kotilainen to guest with Nemesis during the latter half of the set. Esa is the most experienced synth player in Finland, having played with the most well known finnish prog bands, like Wigwam and Tasavallan Presidentti in the 70´s. Not to mention his enormous catalogue of session work and his own solo projects, including the first finnish synth album “Ajatuslapsi” in 1977.
A nice coincidence was also the fact that one of the speakers at the convention was Stephen Hill, the head of the Hearts of Space, US (probably the most well known ambient radio program in the world). Now he could meet and see Esa perfrom; after all, he had played his album quite a bit on the radio in 1977!
It was a resounding success and the improvisation with Esa will hopefully be professionally released someday (it´s actually in the youtube already!). But for now you have to make do with this segment from the first half of the set. It is a nice two-part ambient excursion, the first half features piano samples manipulated by Joni and after that it grows into a meditative sequencer piece. The drums are the legendary Roland TR-808, btw.

A wonderful soundscape to visualise & meditate on a better New Year, & how music can truly help to plan it.

honestly this album takes quite a bit of time and many listening rounds to actually "get into". No doubt it is technically excellent, with more advanced composition elements than earlier records, however it isn't that easily accessible either. Perhaps this is actually a strength as each time you will listen to there will be more details to discover. Martin R
