The 1997 was one of our most productive years. From that year alone, there a couple of album´s worth of decent material in the archives. It was a hectic year and we drifted slolwy from melodic stuff to more experimental and improvised material. We started to connect our synthesizers in unconventional ways and used a lot of effect units to renderunds more ambigious. We relied also a lot on pre-taped soundfields, effected heavily especially with the Ensoniq DP-4. All was still recorded live in the studio to DAT, but it suited well to what we wanted to do. It was a lot about the textures and colours of sound, but we still mostly used rhythmic elements as a backbone.
This track is one of our "spontaneous instant compositions", that we used to do at the time. During a session we worked on a certain track most of the time, but in the end did something off-the-wall stuff with a time restriction. Usually it was just preparing something quickly and then improvising quickly with what we had as a result. The time was usually 30 mins from zero to the finished product! I can´t remember why this one was called "Joyful Exorcist" but it was certaily Jyrki´s idea :)
