about

The very best, long Nemesis jams were always those that started with certain ideas and elements, but totally ended up somewhere else. Usually it was those last 10 minutes when we were in the “lands unknown”, which were the best material. We often could end up in a sonic landscape that we could not possibly had designed even if we had tried to. That´s the beauty of collective improvisation with good musical friends, when anyone can take the thing to a new direction and the rest are able and willing to follow. To be repeatedly able to get to that level calls for regular practice and a lot of time… both of which are in short supply in the modern world.

This one started as a freak idea to build a sampled drum kit of our own voices, a bit of “Boing Boom Tschak” if you like. The results were hilarious, but we persevered and managed to make a sort of backing of those. We started to improvise on it and after 20 mins. it had transformed from a funny piece to a very ethereal and beautiful piece, even a bit jazzy. Naturally, by that time the “human drum” sounds had mutated into something else (they are still audible there on this track, especially if you know what they originally were…) and the track unfolded very nicely to the end.

These were some of the best moments and it is very nice that also this particular magical moment was recorded as it happened that evening in 2007.
