A soundtrack for an art exhibition "Nihilo Nihil" in University of Arts and Crafts, Helsinki Finland 1990.
The first, official public outing of Nemesis music. The exhibition was a project where the students of graphic design created a fictional retrospective about a fictional, future artist called Nihilo Nihil. The exhibition needed some futuristic, slightly dystopian background music and Nemesis got the job.
It was thanks to Vesa R. who had previously been on the same course as Ami. He "teleported" himself from art education to the graphic design and was involved in the exhibition. He asked Nemesis to provide the soundtrack, as there wasn´t too many people making electronic music around that time. Ami and Jyrki took the challenge and produced the music in Kokkola one afternoon. There´s certainly some hints of early Tangerine Dream and even Vangelis there, fitting the theme of the artworks in the exhibition... with shades of Blade Runner etc.
Very revealing of the times is that when Vesa negotiated some monetary compensation for the job done, the professor of the department was very reclutant, because he claimed that the musicians of the last years exhibition had produced real music with real instruments and they got paid very little... so this electronic noise is surely entitled to much less :)
The music blared from the speakers in the exhibition hall on a loop for nearly a month and reportedly drove the poor staff at the adjacent bookshop nearly crazy :)
The reason why you can hear this stuff now is that recently the original, unmarked C-cassette with the original 4-track recordings was found in a cupboard (along with some other early multitracks as well). Now it could be digitized and remastered and so here it is. The first public outing of nemesis music ever...
The instruments used were the usual analog stalwarts Micromoog, Yamaha CS-15, Roland MC 202 sequencer, Binson Echorec and Korg Polysix. The metallic tones and choirs were produced with the first up-to-date piece of gear in Nemesis studio; the brand new Korg M1.
A nice set by two young guys in the early days... the first steps outside the studio... on tape at least.

honestly this album takes quite a bit of time and many listening rounds to actually "get into". No doubt it is technically excellent, with more advanced composition elements than earlier records, however it isn't that easily accessible either. Perhaps this is actually a strength as each time you will listen to there will be more details to discover. Martin R
