about

Early 1990 was a time of great change for Nemesis. Jyrki decided to make a huge investment and buy a brand new Korg M1. Suddenly in addition of the analog synths we had something like a Fairlight in use! Let´s face it, many of the Fairlight users used just the preset sound libraries instead of sampling, so this wasn´t that far from it regarding the possibilites. Now we had crystal clear digital sounds, authentic (for the time) acoustic samples, plenty of effects and most importantly 8 track pattern sequencer!

So it went from totally organic to totally programmed almost overnight. We both loved Michael Hoenig´s album "Except One" and this was a gateway to similar soundworlds. Fortunately we soon found that if you worked only with M1 (and we mostly did, for months), the result was a bit "all from a one.box"-type of sound and we soon decided to use the older synths together with the M1.

This track is a good example of our working method at the time; firstly we programmed the rhythm tracks and then recorded the overdubs in real time. All to Fostex X-26 cassette 4-tracker. It was a good combination and here Yamaha CS-15 does also a bit of bass line as well...triggered via envelope by a drum sound from M1 via aux output.

All in all, rather bold and heavy track with certain 80´s synthpop elements, recorded in the summer of 1990.
