Loved your gig @yo-talo Tre, some years before millenium.Allways remembering the gigantic racks of hardware, with envy :) I've been looking for your music randomly ever since. What a suprise to find it now, here. Thanks!
The very first public work by Nemesis, previously unreleased. Now as a remastered, name-your-price digital album of 35 mins.
It´s an electronic soundtrack recorded for an art exhibition at the University of Arts and Crafts, Helsinki Finland in the Spring of 1990.
The original multitrack C-cassette was found recently in a box of unmarked C-cassettes from Nemesis archives. It was in fine condition, so it was relatively easy to transfer it to digital audio and remaster for this digital release.
The exhibition was a project for the departement of graphic design and the idea was to create an retrospective for an imaginary artist from the future, named Nihilo Nihil. So the soundtrack needed to be futuristic and otherworldly as well. Nemesis got the job via a friend in the departement (Ami was studying in the art education departement at the time in the same university).
Ami and Jyrki produced the music over one weekend and here it is as it was then, but with a bit clearer sound. The music has shades of Tangerine Dream, Vangelis etc. but has its own dystopian flavour as well... To make music like this was rather unusual in Finland, especially at the time.
Very revealing of the times was the conversation that Vesa R. (the friend who organized the job for Nemesis in the first place...thanks Vesa!) had with the head of the graphic design dept about the monetary compensation for the band regarding the soundtrack work: "Well, we hardly had to pay anything for the soundtrack for the last year's exhibition...and after all, that one was real music recorded with real instruments!" Fun times!
Anyway, the soundtrack was used and blared in the gallery on a loop for a month or so. Reportedly, it nearly drove the staff crazy... Enjoy!

honestly this album takes quite a bit of time and many listening rounds to actually "get into". No doubt it is technically excellent, with more advanced composition elements than earlier records, however it isn't that easily accessible either. Perhaps this is actually a strength as each time you will listen to there will be more details to discover. Martin R
